Corinthians sends a renewal proposal to Cássio and awaits a response from the goalkeeper

As much as this year's unstable season has led goalkeeper Cássio to the Corinthians bench, the club wants to renew the goalkeeper's contract for another season and has already offered an extension to the historic idol. The management's idea is to renew the contract for one year, until the end of 2025.

Cássio has not ruled out leaving before the current contract ends, but the goalkeeper's history and image among the fans is a factor that weighs on the player's decision.

In the mid-year window, in June, Cássio will be free to sign a pre-contract with any other team. Some clubs are investigating the situation of the goalkeeper, who wants to continue in national football. During an interview with Globo Esporte, the archer said that he wants to act until he is 40 years old.

History

At 36 years old and 12 years old with Corinthians, the goalkeeper played 712 games for the club, with an impressive 710 appearances as a starter. Cássio is the second greatest player to wear the black and white shirt and has nine titles: four state championships (2013, 2017, 2018 and 2019); Brazilian Championships (2015 and 2017); Libertadores (2012); World Cup (2012), and Recopa-Sul-Americana (2013).

After being heavily contested at the beginning of this year, with consecutive failures in matches, Cássio lost his starting spot to Carlos Miguel. The last straw for going to the bench was the outburst after the defeat against Argentino Juniors, in Argentina. On the occasion, the goalkeeper spoke about the pressure he suffered due to the poor results and stated that he was seeking help for his mental health, undergoing treatment with psychologists and psychiatrists.

In addition to preparing a natural transition for Carlos Miguel, the club's current starting goalkeeper, the Corinthians management wants to keep Cássio in the squad and prepares a dignified farewell for one of the greatest idols in the club's history.
