Homeless man found dead after cold night in SP

Identified as Odair Mesquita dos Santos, the 58-year-old man was found dead under a walkway in Jardins, a prime area of ​​the state.

The body was found by social workers in the region; as soon as they identified the death, they called the Military Police and Samu. The lifeless body was taken to the IML.

Movements in defense of the street population believe that Odair’s death was caused by the very cold weather that hit the capital last Sunday (14)

According to a defense agent for this population, he said that the case of Odair and his state had already been alerted to the network of the responsible municipality to provide the necessary assistance to the class.

In response to what happened, the Municipal Secretariat in the Social Assistance and Development niche commented on the death of the resident who died. The secretary also disclosed that the previous night (13) she had made about 641 referrals to the host service. According to the folder, the service distributed 18,618 blankets and around 18,848 food items, soup, water, bread, etc.

The cause of death has not yet been released. If it is confirmed that the death was actually caused by the cold, the 58-year-old will be the first person to die in São Paulo in 2023 due to the cold weather.

The Secretary of Public Security of São Paulo was also pressured to give an opinion on what happened. However, the SSP-SP has not made a statement on this matter so far.

Low temperatures in Sao Paulo

According to the Emergency Management Center of São Paulo, on Sunday (14) the marked temperatures were very low. In the north zone region, it was marked 9.1 degrees in Perus. In the south zone of the state, the cold was even greater; reaching up to 6.4 degrees.

On average, Sunday morning had a minimum temperature of around 11 degrees.
