Kristen Stewart says she would break up with Edward if she were in Bella's position

In an interview for the podcast “Not skinny but not fat”, American actress Kristen Stewart commented on the “Twilight” saga, which she starred in between 2008 and 2012. When asked about Bella and her relationship with the vampire Edward, Stewart did not hesitate to defend the protagonist, in addition to stating that he would have ended with the vampire immediately, if he had been in his character's place. The actress draws attention to Edward's controlling and manipulative behaviors throughout the films.

Rereadings and criticism

The “Twilight” saga was a great success with both books and films, in addition to becoming a pop culture phenomenon in the 2000s. In recent years, however, much criticism and new negative interpretations have emerged from the public and even the artists who took part in the adaptations of the work. The relationship between Bella and Edward is one of the main targets of this criticism, currently considered toxic.

Many readers point out passages in which the vampire tried to control the protagonist, or even manipulated situations and disrespected Bella's decisions. The actress defends Bella's actions, but agrees with these criticisms and states that she would end up with Edward in the character's place.

The first book in the “Twilight” saga was released in 2005 and was adapted for film in 2008. The story revolves around teenager Bella Swan, who, upon moving to the city of Forks to live with her father, falls in love by vampire Edward Cullen. The films were a huge success and generated approximately R$3.3 million at the box office, in addition to remaining relevant in pop culture discussions to this day.
