“Star Trek 4” gets a new screenwriter and promises to end the franchise

The science fiction franchise Star Trek just got a new writer, Steve Yockey. He is already working on the lines of text for the fourth film in the franchise, the next step after the success of 2019's Star Trek: Without Borders and, Paramount intends to be the last episode with the stellar cast.

Star Trek is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, science fiction production in the history of television and cinema.

The first series, the original and classic story of the intrepid crew of the Enterprise, captained by James T. Kirk, assisted by figures such as Spock and Dr. McCoy, among others, was launched in 1966.

Since then, sequels, derivative series, films, comic books, cartoons and others have been released to enhance and expand this universe, literally, as alive as it was interesting, that was created.

In 2009, a remake was developed and released by Paramount, starting a new trilogy after a 7-year hiatus. Since then, two sequels have been released: Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013) and Star Trek: Without Borders (2016).

Continuation and end of an era

According to Varietywith the addition of Steve Yockey, who has worked on famous series such as Awkward, Scream, Supernatural, Doom Patrol and, but recently, The Flight Attendantfor the creation of the script, the fourth film in the franchise, still without an official name, Paramount promises a last act for the crew and its cast.

So when the film that makes the franchise a quadrilogy hits theaters, it will likely be the last time fans see it; Chris Pine (Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Karl Urban (Bones), Zoe Saldana (Uhura) and John Cho (Sulu), as the crew of the Enterprise.

The franchise, a trilogy so far headed by Chris Pine, has grossed around $1.2 billion worldwide. The first two films were directed by JJ Abrams, while the last one released had Justin Lee as director.
