Stephen Lang celebrates the start of filming on “Avatar 4”

Production on “Avatar 3” has not yet been completed behind the scenes, but filming on the fourth film in the franchise has already begun. Actor Stephen Lang, who plays the story's main antagonist, released a photo on the set of the film, scheduled to premiere in 2029, to celebrate the start of work.

The publication shows the actor in a suit used to capture movements for special effects. After starring in the first film as himself, Lang became a Na'Vi in the sequel, released in 2022. With the death of Colonel Quaritch, the character was resurrected in a new form to continue his plan of revenge against the protagonists.

On social media, the actor joked with the term “deja vu”, referring to the return of the blue characters. “Avatar 4” will have a time jump of six years, as director James Cameron has already confirmed.

Since the premiere of “Avatar: The Way of Water” (2022), producers have already paved the way for new films, as the second feature in the franchise left many hooks for the sequel to the dispute between humans and the Na'Vi. Last year, producer Jon Landau even commented on the plot of the third film, which will introduce a new native tribe, whose leader will play an antagonist role.

“Avatar” is one of the biggest franchises in history

Released in 2009, “Avatar” remains the highest-grossing film of all time, with visual effects considered revolutionary at the time. The film narrates a dispute between the Na'Vi and humans, who explore ore on the planet Pandora in a dystopian future, using technology that can make a person take on the body of a native being.
