Tottenham hits hammer and decides not to count on Lucas Moura for next season
Tottenham announced this Thursday (18) the departure of former São Paulo player Lucas Moura. The club will be without the 30-year-old attacking midfielder for next season. The Brazilian has a contract in force until the end of the current season, which ends in June this year. The player will stop defending the colors of the English club after five and a half years.
Information about Lucas’ departure was initially released in January of this year. In the statement released via social networks, Tottenham says it will inform about the departures of more athletes in the coming days.

Lucas Moura has been approached by some clubs in Major League Soccer (MLS), the main league in the United States. In Brazil, São Paulo supporters began to speculate on a possible return to the São Paulo club, his home club, but this return is seen as unlikely at the current time.
With the injury cases, Lucas has only been present in 19 of the 48 matches played by Tottenham this season, scoring three goals. In the 2022/23 season, the Brazilian played in the starting line-up on just seven occasions.
The Brazilian began his spell at Tottenham in 2018. During his spell he scored 38 goals in 219 matches. Lucas is marked in the club’s recent history by the three goals scored in the Champions League semi-final against Ajax, which put Spurs in the final of the European competition.
The number 27 shirt ended up losing its place in the starting lineup after the arrival of players Kolosovski and another Brazilian, Richarlyson. In the 2021/22 season, Lucas played in 45 matches for the Spurs, 26 of which as a starter. The athlete ended the season with six goals scored and eight assists.
Despite the return to Brazil not being in the player’s plans, a good part of São Paulo’s fans are still waiting for a turnaround, bringing back to Morumbi one of the main responsible for winning the 2012 South American Cup, in which the tricolor was crowned competition champion.
