Xavi firmly sees FC Barcelona in Turkey
Trainer Xavi is very pleased with the way FC Barcelona reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League on Thursday evening at the expense of Galatasaray. The Spaniard thinks his team is ready for Sunday’s smash against Real Madrid.
“El Clásico comes at a good time for us,” said Xavi after the 1-2 win in Istanbul. “But that doesn’t mean a lot. In the past we won games against Real when we were not in form and we lost when we had a good run.
It will be very difficult on Sunday anyway.”
FC Barcelona does not only benefit from a good result against the rival from Madrid on the basis of the ranking, the Catalans also prey on rehabilitation.
This season in Camp Nou under then coach Ronald Koeman lost to Real and early this year again in Saudi Arabia, where the two rivals met in the semi-finals of the Spanish supercup.
It is now much better with Barcelona, which are currently unbeaten for eleven games in a row.
The crucial victory over Galatasaray did not come about on Thursday evening, because Marcão Teixeira gave the Turkish top club the lead after half an hour.
Pedri made it 1-1 before half-time and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave Barcelona the victory at the start of the second half on a pass from Frenkie de Jong.

‘We are not favorites for the Europa League win’
According to Xavi, the score could have been even higher. “I don’t know exactly how much possession we had, but we were constantly in the half of Galatasaray.
We dominated and created enough chances. To be honest, this result is still too small.”
Given the status of FC Barcelona, the club is quickly counted among the title favorites, but Xavi is careful not to overestimate. “I don’t see us as favourites.
We don’t know this tournament and our opponents. We are certainly one of the candidates and it feels good to be in the quarter-finals, but no more than that.”
FC Barcelona will hear on Friday from 1.30 pm who will be the opponent in the quarter finals.
RB Leipzig, SC Braga, Atalanta, Rangers, Eintracht Frankfurt, Olympique Lyon and West Ham United will also be entered for the draw.
