Marathon City of Florianópolis has a large drop in the number of participants

Competing runners with the Rio de Janeiro Marathon is not a good idea

I always thought that disputing the date of the event with the Rio Marathon, the biggest in the country, was a bad idea. The race numbers this year prove my point.

Ever since O2/Ativo/Norte Mkt decided to make Meia da Cidade de Florianópolis a marathon, I always thought it wasn’t a good idea.

It is not a good idea because they chose the Corpus Christi holiday for the race, the same holiday adopted by the Rio Marathon, which for some years now has been the largest in Brazil, that is, there is little room for growth when competing with marathoners an event that grows year after year.

The problem we still have with this organizer is that she hides the number of finishers of the event, even with the change in Rule 7 of the CBAt, which makes it mandatory, regardless of whether the test has a permit (a type of license) gold, silver or bronze.

Bronze level events, which is the case of all O2/Ativo/Norte Mkt events, such as the Circuito das Estações and the marathon in Florianópolis, have a “license” authorized by the state athletics federations and it is up to them to inspect compliance with all rules established by the CBAt for racing events.

However, even with truncated numbers of results, I had access to the total number of runners in the City of Florianópolis Marathon that took place this past Sunday, and I saw that my opinion about not disputing athletes with Rio was right: the total number of graduates at all distances did not even reach 2,000while Rio had more than 30 thousand. The 42 km in Floripa, for example, had only 355 runnerswhile those in the wonderful city saw more than 7,365 marathoners crossing their finish line.

Now it’s kind of explained why the insistence on not disclosing the results to everyone, isn’t it? In any case, the organization seems to want to double the bet, registrations are already open for next year’s race.

I remind you that there are two marathons in the city. One is mentioned in this article, the Florianópolis City Marathon and the other, which is the Florianopolis International Marathonscheduled to take place between the 25th and 27th of August.
