Medicine that treats diabetes – According to reports, the medicine Ozempic, which serves to treat cases of type 2 diabetes, is missing from pharmacies. The shortage occurs after a release by Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) that allows the medicine to be used to lose weight, since the medicine inhibits appetite.

According to the manufacturer, the replenishment of wholesalers, distributors and pharmacies should be normalized during the second half of this year.

In an interview with BandNews, Marcela De Biase has been using the drug for three years to control blood sugar, but has had difficulties buying the medication. “Two weeks ago, I went to a pharmacy in Rio de Janeiro and they didn’t have any. The pharmacist explained the difficulties in replenishing the stock. In other places, it doesn’t. I get worried, because it took me a while to adapt to a medicine”, explained.

Since January, the use of the injectable pen in Brazil has increased to treat cases of obesity. The drug can be purchased without a prescription and costs around R$800.

The recommendation made by the endocrinologist, Márcio Krakauer, is that the use should be done under medical supervision and draws attention to the use of the injectable pen without supervision. “There are countless adverse effects when someone takes it without guidance. There are patients who cannot take it at all.” highlighted in an interview with BandNews.

The president of the Brazilian Society of Diabetes (SBD), Levimar Araújo, reinforces that the treatment should not be interrupted, because the moment the treatment is interrupted, the glycemic rates can increase. “Our guidance is for doctors to seek other alternatives in the face of the current scenario. Patients can take other medications,” he explains.

The SBD (Brazilian Society of Diabetes) advises patients with type 2 diabetes who use the medicine ozempic to seek medical help if they cannot find the medicine. In a statement to SBD, it says it has another concern, which is the high consumption of Ozempic, which may end up affecting the production of insulin pens, which will harm millions of patients who need this medicine.
