USA Pharmacy and covid-19 vaccine.
A pharmacy in the United States used doses of saline instead of vaccines against covid-19 by mistake. The error occurred at a unit of the Walgreens drugstore chain in the city of Monroe, North Carolina.
Walgreens did not give details of how many doses of serum were mistakenly applied, but said a “limited number” of people were involved in the error. The pharmacy chain also said it had contacted people to return to the scene and receive the vaccine against covid-19 as soon as possible.
The cause of the error is still being investigated internally by Walgreens. In the United States, pharmacies and even supermarkets are part of the vaccination points against the disease caused by the new coronavirus .
The Walgreens chain, which has more than 9,000 units in the country, has been applying doses of the vaccine from Pfizer / BioNTech and also from Moderna.
More recently, Walgreens said it had also started to distribute the Janssen vaccine, which is the pharmaceutical arm of Johnson & Johnson, on its network. Unlike Pfizer and Moderna immunizers, the Janssen vaccine is a single dose, not requiring a booster dose.
According to data from the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), the second dose has also been applied to more than 83 million adults, which means 34% of the population.
As of today, all adults can be vaccinated against covid-19 in the United States, with the expansion of the campaign to people between 16 and 30 years old
