Last Friday (30), councilor Kevin de León presented a resolution declaring Saturday “Bad Bunny Day” in Los Angeles to honor Reggaeton singer Bad Bunny. According to de León, the motion was made due to the Puerto Rican artist's cultural impact on the city's Latino community – according to an ABC report, half of the population of Los Angeles identifies as Latino – and was supported by all council members. “Bad Bunny's cultural impact will have a tremendous, positive influence on future generations and will redefine Latino culture in Los Angeles and beyond for years to come,” explained councilor Kevin de León.

Second tribute to the singer

Los Angeles was not the first city to declare a day for the singer, already mayor of Boston, Michelle Wu decided to pay homage to Bad Bunny and declared August 18th as “Bad Bunny Day”. “Welcome to our diverse and beautiful city, @sanbenito! Let me know if you want recommendations for good Latin food in Boston,” wrote the mayor on her official Twitter account.

Help Puerto Rico

In addition to his success in music, Bad Bunny is also linked to philanthropy issues. Hurricane Fiona passed through Puerto Rico in early September, leaving extensive damage in the country, ranging from floods, blackouts and communities mourning the deaths. The singer made QR codes available, on the wristbands of concert goers where he directs fans, to several approved organizations that support the hardest hit communities in Puerto Rico. In addition, he released a short film, entitled “Aquí Vive Gente”, followed by the official video for the single “El Apagon”, narrated by journalist Bianca Graulau. The 22-minute documentary highlights the aftereffects of the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in 2017 and the ongoing power outages in Puerto Rico.
