Brazil returns to exporting meat to Russia

In Russia, the suspension was of meat with bone, blood, offal and live cattle, boneless meat was allowed to be exported, but with restrictions, the country required that the cattle be younger than 30 months (2 years and 5 months). In addition to this requirement, the Russians also established that meat exported from Brazil must have a veterinary certificate attached with the guarantee that it meets the requirements established by the Russian authorities.

Joao Otávio Figueiredo from the Datagro Livestock stated that the Russian country was once an important buyer, but that over time purchases decreased, Russia already accounted for more than 30% of sales from Brazil to other countries. This Russian decision was established a week after China stopped buying Brazilian beef, in the meantime the price of arroba beef fell 3.4% in São Paulo, the price was R$ 277.00.

Today (07/04) the Brazilian government announced the withdrawal of Russian restrictions on the purchase of beef again. O Itamaraty says in a note:The Brazilian government welcomed the announcement today, April 7, of the end of restrictions on Brazilian beef imposed by Russia due to the isolated case of atypical Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) in the state of Pará. The announcement, in addition to the recent reopening of the Philippine market, achieved on March 28, and the reopening of other markets (note no. 109/2023), represents the full normalization of product trade with Russia”.

O Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the occurrence does not pose a risk to public health. In the year 2022, Brazil exported the equivalent of US$ 165 million, a total of 24 thousand tons of beef.
