Internazionale fails to take over the lead

Internazionale failed to take the lead from AC Milan on Friday. The team of Stefan de Vrij and Denzel Dumfries drew 0-0 against Genoa, after Milan got stuck at 1-1 against Udinese earlier in the evening.

Inter dominated a visit to Genoa with 72 percent possession, but despite twenty attempts, they failed to find a hole in the wall.

Orange internationals De Vrij and Dumfries played the entire match at Inter, Icelander Albert Gudmundsson, who had come over from AZ, was replaced shortly before time at Genoa.

With a win, the defending champion would have equalized in points with AC Milan, which has also played one more game. Earlier in the evening, the ‘Rossoneri’ did not go further than 1-1 against Udinese at home.

Milan took the lead after half an hour via Rafael Leao, who rounded off on a cross from Sandro Tonali. It was the eighth goal of the season for the 22-year-old Portuguese.

Without the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Milan had a lot of ball possession, but couldn’t really push it through. Udinese was regularly dangerous on the counter and equalized halfway through the second half.

Only nineteen-year-old Destiny Udogie scored in the rebound. He had come on as a substitute for Marvin Zeegelaar ten minutes earlier. Bram Nuytinck was absent from Udinese with an injury.
