Ministry of Health releases new data on deaths from dengue in the country

Despite the high number, the data may be even greater, as another 231 deaths are still being investigated. Until April 6, investigations point to 592,453 probable cases of dengue in all of the country, with an incidence of 278 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and, of all 5,570 Brazilian municipalities, 4,230 had at least one positive case of dengue. in 2023.

The state most affected by the disease was Espírito Santo, which had an incidence of 1,568 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In the first half of 2022, the state had registered 1,742 cases and now registers 64,422. Minas Gerais is the state with the highest increase in cases, 170,164 cases reported in the first quarter of this year alone. Mato Grosso do Sul already recorded an increase of 4,248 cases to 24,048.

According to the most recent epidemiological bulletin published by the Ministry, the state of São Paulo has confirmed 88,800 cases of dengue and 70 deaths from the disease so far. Despite the high number, the data point to a decrease in cases compared to the same period last year, in which 16,600 cases and 103 deaths were recorded.

The folder draws attention to the increase in deaths among children aged 4 to 7 years old, in the interior of São Paulo, during the analysis period, registered in Osvaldo Cruz, Junqueirópolis and Lins. Other cities in the state are also in an epidemic situation due to dengue, namely Itápolis (2,396 cases), Taquaritinga (3,815) and Presidente Prudente (6,849). Prudente has already registered seven deaths from the disease this year.

It is noteworthy that in 2022, the country reported the highest number of deaths from dengue since the 1980s, recording 1,016 deaths. In São Paulo, 332,139 cases of dengue were confirmed in 617 of the 645 municipalities in São Paulo, with the confirmation of 287 deaths.

To reduce cases and control the disease, the Ministry has sent health teams to carry out epidemiological surveillance, vector control and assistance actions.
