Oppo Find X5 Pro is a top phone
OPPO has released a new phone with a striking design and a lot of focus on the cameras, but the price of 1,299 euros is a bit too high for what you get.
The OPPO Find X5 Pro largely resembles the Find X3 Pro released last year. The explanation about skipping number 4 is somewhat vague: according to the company, it comes down to the fact that this phone is also a successor to the foldable OPPO phone, the Find N. Which appeared in the period between the Find X3 Pro and the Find X5 Pro.
Either way, this Find X5 Pro looks more like a direct sequel to the Find X3 Pro. This is particularly evident in the design. This new device also has a screen size of 6.7 inches and a back that is made of one piece of ceramic. A curvature in the material works away the camera island. The device therefore looks really sleek and unique compared to other Android devices.
Review: Oppo Find X5 Pro is a top phone with unique design, but too expensive
The advantage of a ceramic back is that it can take a beating. The disadvantage, on the other hand, is that it is already under the fingerprints a few minutes after the phone has been taken out of the box.
The Find X5 Pro has a nice, bright LED screen that adjusts the refresh rate to the way you use the phone. If you read something without scrolling, it switches back to 1 image per second. If you play a game in which a lot happens, the screen can show up to 120 frames per second.
At the edges, the screen slopes slightly. You just have to be a fan of that. We are slightly less so because of discoloration on the sides and unintentional touches of the hand.
Cameras are good, especially in the dark
In the Find X5 Pro, it is largely about the cameras, which have been designed in collaboration with camera brand Hasselblad. There are three lenses. The standard and wide-angle lenses have a resolution of 50 megapixels, with a large sensor to capture a lot of light. In addition, there is a third lens with which you can zoom in optically up to twice.
That distance is a bit disappointing. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, a competitor in this price range, offers ten times zooming without loss of quality. The Find X2 Pro even had a lens with which you can zoom in up to five times.
In the Find X3 Pro was a microscope lens for very close photos. That rather unique lens has disappeared in this new model.
In general, the cameras deliver excellent photos, but especially the night photos stand out compared to the competition. The colors and lighting remain quite true to life even in the dark. Especially with still topics, the results are very convincing.

Nonsense apps are on it by default
On the hardware of the Find X5 Pro there is hardly anything to bargain with. The device is equipped with a fast new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The hefty battery of 5,000 mAh also easily lasts a day. And if it does run out, it can be charged at lightning speed with the included adapter.
OPPO works with Android 12, but uses its own layer over it. In itself, the software is quite clear and there are many possibilities to make adjustments yourself.
However, the phone is included with quite a few pre-installed apps, such as AliExpress, TikTok, Amazon Shopping and PUBG MOBILE.
Why OPPO continues to do that, on a phone of 1,299 euros, is inexplicable.

The OPPO Find X5 Pro is a great phone that stands out especially in a positive sense in terms of design and night photography. But apart from that, OPPO doesn’t do anything that we really hit back, and that’s what you expect with such an expensive device.
Why this phone is 150 euros more expensive than the Find X3 Pro is therefore not clear.
In that respect, it is advisable to wait with a purchase until the Find X5 Pro drops in price.
