Panic in city near Kyiv
In Boryspil, a town near Kyiv, panic has arisen after rumors of a Russian attack on Wednesday. The mayor has therefore called on some of his inhabitants to leave the city. Furthermore, at least 464 schools and 43 hospitals in Ukraine have been damaged by the war, reports aid organization Save The Children.
The mayor of Boryspil – a city about 30 kilometers southeast of Kyiv – has called on some of his residents to leave the city because of fighting. As in the other places around the Ukrainian capital, there are great concerns among the population about the threat of possible Russian attacks.
According to Mayor Volodymyr Borisenko, it is not necessary to stay in Boryspil. He has said that the men can better defend the city when women and children are gone. The city has about 60,000 inhabitants.
An adviser to Ukraine’s interior minister has said that panic has arisen in Boryspil over rumours of a Russian attack on Wednesday, in which the city would be destroyed.

The war has damaged at least 464 schools and 43 hospitals in the country, reports Save the Children. More than sixty schools have been completely destroyed, the aid organization notes after an analysis of figures from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, more than 3.5 million people have fled Ukraine. Among them are more than 1.5 million children. There are still nearly 6 million children in the country, according to Save the Children.
The aid organization calls for the protection of civilians and children.
Russia denies that it is targeting civilian targets in Ukraine, even though there is evidence for this. According to Ukraine, thousands of civilians have died. Of these, the United Nations has verified more than nine hundred. Among them are dozens of children.
Meanwhile, more than 3.5 million Ukrainians have fled abroad, reports the UN on Tuesday. More than 2 million refugees have crossed the border into Poland.
Of them, about half a million have mental health problems, reports the WHO. They need help because of the trauma they have suffered from the war. Ukrainians crossing the border have a wide range of health problems, such as diarrhea and dehydration, according to the WHO.
In the 25 Dutch security regions, more than 24,500 places have so far become available for the reception of Ukrainians who have fled the Russian violence. That’s 700 more than was reported Monday. Meanwhile, 13,000 people are being taken care of at these locations, reports the Ministry of Justice and Security.
In fact, it was agreed with the cabinet that the regions should now have arranged 25,000 reception places, but that was just not achieved. In itself, this does not result in any consequences, because just over half of the reserved shelter is only occupied.
It is not yet clear how many Ukrainians come to the Netherlands. In addition to receiving the authorities, private individuals also receive refugees. How many there are, is also not known.

While the country is being attacked, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues to negotiate. He spoke with Pope Francis on Tuesday.
The head of state told the Catholic leader about the difficult humanitarian situation and the blockade of escape routes by Russian troops near besieged cities.
Zelensky thanked Francis for the prayers for Ukraine and peace.
The pope on Sunday repeated his call to end the war. He spoke of a “senseless massacre” with “massacres and atrocities” every day. “The violent aggression against Ukraine, unfortunately, does not slow down,” he said.
A day earlier, he had visited Ukrainian refugees in a children’s hospital in Rome.
