Sega Says Sonic Frontiers Sales Were Better Than It Expected

Sonic Frontiers – Sega stated that sales of Sonic Frontiers far exceeded expectations. The information was said by the executive vice president of Sega Sammy Holdings, Makoto Takahashi, and the general manager of investor relations, Nobuaki Yoshii, in a question and answer session with investors last week.

“The number of units sold far exceeded the annual plan at the beginning of the fiscal year and we recognize that this is a title we will continue to sell for the long term based on our sales strategies such as pricing, promotions and the development of free DLC” , they explained.

It was recently confirmed that Sonic Frontiers has sold over 2.9 million copies since launch, making it one of the most successful games in the franchise.

When asked about the game’s quality based on critical and player reaction, one of the executives said, “While it’s true that the Metascore (the game’s average on Metacritic) was a bit lower than expected, we believe we’ve managed to release a title that was well received by many people around the world thanks to extremely high user ratings.”

“We plan to sequentially release the recently announced additional DLC and believe we can continue to increase sales. Additionally, starting with Sonic Prime, which premiered on Netflix in December, we plan to further expand the Sonic IP in the future with things like the third movie and merchandising.”

In November, Sega revealed plans involving the new content that will be released for Sonic Frontiers in 2023. The game is available for PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.
