Will Smith’s slap at the Oscars

After resigning from the Academy of Oscars and seeing film projects aborted because of the slap he gave to Chris Rock, Will Smith continues to pay the consequences of his violence. For 10 years, the actor will be banned from all Oscar ceremonies.

The Academy of Oscars decided this Friday, April 8. After deliberation, it was decided that Will Smith would not be able to set foot in a ceremony for ten years, as revealed by AFP.

This decision was made following the huge buzz caused by the slap given by the actor to Chris Rock live on the evening of March 28.

My behavior at the Oscars last night was unacceptable and inexcusable.

Jokes at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s health was too much for me to bear and I reacted with emotion.

I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was wrong […] My actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.

As a punishment to himself, Will Smith had made the decision to resign from the Academy of Oscars. But contrary to what he might have believed, the consequences eventually went much further.

Within a few days of the ceremony, Sony, the producing company, decided to exclude Will Smith from the fourth installment of Bad Boys, a successful franchise of which he was one of the heroes.

The film is suspended for now. As for Fast and Loose, the Netflix project for which he had been chosen, the actor was simply excluded from the shooting.
