Elina Svitolina donates prize money to army
Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina has announced that she will donate the prize money she earns in the coming period to her country. In any case, it concerns the tournament in Monterrey, Mexico, where she plays this week and a few American tournaments.
Svitolina wants to support the Ukrainian army and humanitarian aid after the Russian invasion. The world number fifteen told Eurosport that her family and friends who are still in Ukraine are defending the country and that she would like to help.
“Everyone is terrified, everyone is devastated,” said Svitolina. “My family is there, as are many of my friends who have not left the country. They are fighting for their lives and for our country. It takes a lot of courage.”
“I want to do something for them. Some of my friends are without electricity, without water, without food. They are really having a hard time,” said the 27-year-old tennis player, one of Ukraine’s most famous athletes.

“I did not think that this raid could happen. This is the way for me to help my country,” said the tennis star, who plays against Russian Anastasia Potapova on Tuesday.
