Bebeto denies betrayal: “Romário is getting”

the former striker baby countered the criticism of Romário after being called a traitor by his ex-partner Brazilian Team. In conversation with “UOL Esporte”, the four-time world champion for Brazil revealed the backstage of the friction between them.

“Who is he to call me a traitor? Romário is getting old and I think he’s getting sclerotic, talking a lot of nonsense. I’ve had an honest career in football and politics, I’ve never been involved in controversy. I cannot say the same about him, he is an egoist, he always thought only of himself”said Bebeto in the interview.

“Romário called me to Podemos and I went, but he left without telling anyone, he didn’t tell me. I found out that he had gone to the PL through the press, he didn’t talk to me. In fact, he was the one who cheated, because he left ‘on the sly’. Why didn’t he talk to me?”added the former player, about the political conflict between the duo in 1994.

Bebeto calls Romário an individualist and explains his move to the PSD

“I went to the PSD to support one of the best presidents of Alerj, who was André Ceciliano. It was a request from Eduardo (Paes, mayor of Rio de Janeiro) and later I also supported Caiado’s candidacy. I didn’t betray anyone, politics is done as a group and Romário always only thought about him”explained Bebeto.

“He (Romário) has always been like that, he only thinks about himself. I thought that after getting old he would change, but it seems not.
