Even before the fever for instagrammable environments, Karl Lagerfeld already brought in his baggage the tradition of emblematic settings for his shows at Chanel. At the head of the fashion house for almost three decades, kaiser, as he was called, created scenarios that ranged from snow to the beach, from futurism to the apocalypse. This year, the Met Gala, an event that takes place this Monday (01), in New York, honors the designer. Check out the scenarios that went down in history below:

tweed jacket

The year was 2008. The summer haute couture show took place around a giant tweed jacket, set up on top of the round runway, where models entered and exited changing looks.

The setting paid homage especially to the piece, central to the history of Chanel.

Carousel

That same year, Karl Lagerfeld set up a carousel at the Grand Palais (traditional choice for Chanel shows in Paris), a metaphor for the timelessness of the house’s classics, in a vision already ahead of its time, as well as a comment on the speed of the fashion market.

miami beach

Closing the season in 2008, the show was held in South Beach, Miami, with high temperatures in the Cruise collection.

To end the day’s parade with a golden key, the United States synchronized swimming team performed on the full runway.

cold fashion

Karl Lagerfeld brought to the catwalks in 2010, models walking between icebergs and dry ice, removing any doubt from those who say that it is more difficult to maintain style in the cold.

King of the jungle

In the same year, in homage to Coco Chanel, who had the sun and Venus in Leo, the designer brought a giant, golden statue to the center of the catwalk.

The animal still had a paw on a huge globe, in reference to pearls, a trademark of the founder of the brand.

Seabed

For Chanel’s summer 2012, pieces of coral, seaweed and shells were what made up the runway’s aquatic backdrop that year.

Designed by architect Zaha Hadid, the ethereal environment was worthy of the goddess Venus.

Post-Apocalypse

For the winter of 2013, Lagerfeld used the description “On the way from the Old World to the New World” and transformed the Grand Palais into an apocalyptic theater.

Clean energy

Already ahead of time, aiming at the future of his generations, Lagerfeld, in the same year presented the summer 2013 under solar energy panels and wind energy turbines: “The wind and the sun are free”, declared the designer that day.
