Denmark and the Netherlands will send 14 Leopard tanks to Ukraine

In the statement the ministry said that the Netherlands and Denmark announced today their intention to purchase, refurbish and supply Ukraine with 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks after the successful collaboration with the country of Germany for the delivery of at least 100 Leopard 1A5 tanks.

The tanks are expected to be delivered from the beginning of 2024 and their total cost was estimated at 165 million euros (R$ 908.2 million) to be divided equally between the two countries, adds the note.

In a statement, Danish minister Troels Lund Poulsen said: “Ukraine calls for Western tanks to counter Russian aggression. Since the start of the invasion, Denmark has supported Ukraine’s fight for freedom, and we continue to do so.”

In another separate statement, Dutch Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren reported that “Ukrainian and European security are inextricably linked.”

The Leopard 2 is a very heavy tank that Ukraine has been requesting for months from Germany and Western powers alike, and a susceptible world-renowned asset that can make quite a significant impact on a battlefield.
