Eurovision bettors see Ukraine rise
Ironically, Ukraine has been doing remarkably well with the bookmakers of the Eurovision Son Contest since the invasion by Russia. Many betting shops in the country, which is going to Turin with Kalush Orchestra, suddenly see a possible winner.
The Ukrainian music group has a 17 percent chance of winning on Friday evening based on an average quotation at the bookmakers. Two days ago it was still 6 percent. The event will only take place at the beginning of May: until then, of course, a lot can change both in Eastern Europe and among the bookmakers.
Eurovision bettors see Ukraine rise sharply
Italy has been the favorite since the beginning of this month. Although part of the field is not yet known, the chance that Mahmood and BLANCO will win is now estimated at 21 percent. The Netherlands is currently in 17th place, while singer S10 will only present her entry next week.
Russia is no longer allowed to participate
Russia is not allowed to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest this year, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced on Friday. Several countries, including the Netherlands, had requested this.
It was not yet known which artist would send Russia to Turin.
Earlier, the EBU announced that Russia could still participate in May, but that statement was made before the Russian invasion of Ukraine started.
