“Malhação” star reveals that his drug addiction increased at the time of the teen soap opera

The actor Sergio Hondjakoff participated in a podcast episode talking parrot and talked about his trajectory in the world of drugs. the interpreter of big headcharacter from the teen soap opera ‘Workout’told firsthand that his first contact with drugs was at the age of fourteen.

“I started using drugs at school when I was 14. I had that friend who already used cannabis and got along well. He got all the girls and I ended up being inspired by him. At first it was even good, there were advantages. I started to see myself outside the box . But then I started using too much”said Sergio.

Diagnosed with attention deficit disorder in childhood, Hondjakoff shared a little bit about how the disorder affected his life, in addition to opening his trunk of memories from school days.

“I had some passions. I cried at school, I fought. I didn’t know how to make fun of, I was that rascal that everyone messed with but I didn’t know when to stop and I was always taken to the coordination. I was always suspended at school. I I wasn’t very smart.”

He also recalled the importance that acting in the soap opera that marked an entire generation had on his lack of control. Sérgio reports that at first he managed to control it, but then things took on enormous proportions. In the first years, he took, as he himself classified it “in the shoe”, his dependence, because he was very reserved. Because he didn’t open up to anyone, it was very difficult for someone observing from the outside to identify the situation. Everything got complicated after the arrival of a more “forward” group behind the scenes of the television series.

” (…) in the second year of Malhação, a more cool crowd started to join. I started to open up a little more and over the years, I joined this crowd and then it started.”

The impacts that drugs had on his career are undeniable and the actor himself admits it. The need for drugs has been escalating with the passage of time. He started with cannabis and ended up with the dreaded crack. And it was at that moment that Sérgio claims to have known rock bottom. His life turned upside down.

“(…) I never had major financial losses, but I lost friendships, girlfriends and almost lost my life. There is no safe amount to use this type of substance, any amount can lead to death.”

Fresh off a 10-month stint in a rehab clinic in the city of Itu, São Paulo, he is currently living in Rio de Janeiro, where he continues his addiction treatment.
