Nintendo Doesn’t Plan Switch Price Cuts Despite Slumping Sales

Despite Switch sales down 22.1% in the last fiscal year, Nintendo has no plans to cut the console’s price.

“On the hardware front, prices for some materials have dropped, but overall costs remain high. We must also continue to account for the impact of factors such as inflation and exchange rates,” said Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa.

“Production was heavily impacted during the previous fiscal year, so we are ensuring that our parts procurement takes place early enough to ensure steady production. Even if raw material prices fall, it will take time for this to be reflected in manufacturing costs. There are currently no plans to reduce the price of our hardware during this fiscal year.”

“On the other hand, while we also have no plans to raise prices, the yen remains weak and acquisition costs remain high, so we will continue to monitor the situation carefully.”

When asked about the $70 price tag for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and plans for pricing the company’s upcoming games, Furukawa explained that each case will be analyzed separately.

“Regarding software pricing, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s MSRP (Suggested Retail Price) is ten dollars higher in the US than its predecessor, but this does not indicate an overall increase in software prices. our games. Our approach is to determine the appropriate price of a product on a case-by-case basis,” he said.

“It is true that development costs are increasing due to the increased breadth of content and the requirement for more advanced technology to support online play, so pricing our new titles going forward is something we will continue to carefully consider.”
