Sponsor of Antwerp drops out after Overmars arrives
Select Group, one of the sponsors of Royal Antwerp FC, has decided to sever ties with the club after this season. The company is displeased with the appointment of Marc Overmars and with the way in which the former director of Ajax’s football affairs was presented.

“The choice to appoint Mr Overmars, who was recently accused of transgressive behavior and against whom an independent investigation is currently ongoing in the Netherlands, goes directly against the values and standards of our Select Group,” a statement told Het Latest News .

Overmars was appointed as director of Antwerp FC on Monday, barely two months after his forced departure from Ajax.
At his presentation, the Epenaar said that he “wants to leave the black Ajax page behind”, but he did not elaborate on the issue.
Select Group says that every person deserves a second chance after a period of self-reflection, but did not hear from either the management or Overmars at the press conference about “this process of self-reflection and acquired insight.
We have not heard or seen the problem either, and as a permanent partner and sponsor we were not informed in advance.”
It is not clear whether other sponsors will follow Select Group’s lead.
Heylen Group, one of the largest lenders to the current number three in Belgium, said it was surprised about the rapid return of Overmars, but that it did not take a position yet.
