Passengers face chaos and lack of information
A tourist train was stuck for almost 10 hours in Serra do Mar, on the coast of Paraná. The locomotive was taking with it 943 passengers who left the state capital, Curitiba, for Morretes, on the coast of the state.
According to the company responsible for the trip, Serra Verde Express, the 22-car train got stuck around 11 am, due to branches and trees on the tracks, when they were about 15 kilometers from their destination.
The company also stated that, despite this, all guides who were present on the train had first aid training to assist passengers and confirmed that all assistance was provided by the company to everyone on the trip, including providing water and food to the elderly and children as a priority.
Official note from the responsible company (Reproduction/Serra Verde Instagram)
Engineer Adams Richard, who was on site, said he had never been through a similar situation in his entire life.
“I could never imagine a situation completely out of control like this. We spent more than 10 hours on the train with a two-year-old child. We started to see people there who were crying with fear. In the other carriage there were people fainting… It was chaos”
Other people give a different version of what the company claimed.
Lucinéia Marcelino Lourenço, who was also one of the passengers, said that information about the situation had yet to reach people.
“Tiring, huh? You don’t know anything, you have no idea what’s going on, you had no information”, said.
Meanwhile, Norildo Gonçalves criticized the company’s lack of care for passengers.
“There was no water, there was nothing. My wife is diabetic, she was feeling sick, then my daughter too because she didn’t have water, she didn’t have food “
The Rumo Logística concessionaire, responsible for the railway, informed that the train managed to arrive at the place, at the Morretes station, around 9 pm, on Thursday (13). The train would have left the capital at around 8:30 am.
The company Serra Verde Express canceled the tours after what happened on Friday (14), both to and from Morretes.
