Atlético Mineiro easily beats Corinthians in the 2023 Copa do Brasil

Corinthians tried to bring a draw from Minas Gerais, for the return match of the 2023 Copa do Brasil final. Despite the Mineirão’s poor pitch, Atlético invested in Hulk’s set pieces and in the speed of the wingers. In the first stage, the Minas Gerais team had patience and in insinuating plots, tried to beat the Corinthians defense. Corinthians came up with the plan to start a draw and only dared in the counterattacks with Yuri Alberto and Roger Guedes. The only factor that caught the attention of the alvinegro from São Paulo was the tightest marking of the entire squad. Without efficiency in finalizations, the Rooster went to the locker room, without changing the scoreboard. In the second stage, after insistence from the attack, Paulinho’s opportunism shone and Atlético scored 1X0, behind Fagner. In the goal, the attacker collided with Cássio’s crossbar and almost got hurt.

It didn’t take long for Paulinho to take advantage of a rebound in the area, make his second and close the match, for Galo mineiro, by 2X0. The scoreboard showed that it came cheap, for Corinthians. The return match will be on May 31, at the Neoquímica Arena, at 21:30 and Vanderley Luxemburgo’s team will have to score two goals, to take the match to penalties.

Coach Eduardo Coudet praised the fight and balance of his athletes. Atlético returns to the field on Saturday (20), against Coritiba, for the Brasileirão, at Couto Pereira and next Tuesday (23), duel against Athlético Paranaense, in the fourth round of the Libertadores.

Corinthians only has a quarry ahead of them. On Sunday (21), at 16:00, he will face Flamengo, for the Brazilian championship and on Wednesday (24), he will face Argentine Junior, for Libertadores.
