After the UEFA Champions League decision, the main club tournament in the world, between Manchester City and Inter Milan, played last Saturday (10) and won by the English club, the 2022/23 season of European football has ended. Therefore, in the coming weeks, attention will be focused on the transfer market, in a window that opens in July.
As usually happens at this time of the year, contracts for several players come to an end and, with that, speculation about possible moves by athletes and clubs in search of new reinforcements become increasingly frequent on the part of fans and the press.
Based on this context, we have gathered the top five free names on the market as of July 1st that may become viable signing options with no transfer costs. Are they:
İlkay Gündoğan – captain of Manchester City in the greatest season in the club’s history with the conquest of the so-called “Triple Crown” (English Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League), the midfielder did not renew with his current team and may transfer for Barcelona.
Ángel Di María – world champion with the Argentine national team in the Qatar Cup, in December last year, the 35-year-old star ended his time at Juventus after the end of the Italian Championship and has an indefinite future.
Roberto Firmino – the greatest Brazilian in the history of Liverpool said goodbye to the English club after eight years. With a successful passage and decisive goals, the striker is 31 years old and was approached by Real Madrid, which seeks to replace Karim Benzema’s departure.
Marco Asensio – three times European champion for Real Madrid, the Spanish midfielder made his departure official from the club at the end of May and, according to information released by some newspapers in Spain, he can reinforce Paris Saint-Germain in 2023/24.
James Rodríguez – 2014 World Cup sensation and with spells at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, James ended his career at Olympiacos, in Greece, and is looking for a new club. The player was speculated at Botafogo and other clubs in South America and, more recently, had his name linked to Boca Juniors.
