With a time of 2:07:06 and fourth place in the Hamburg Marathon, this Sunday (23), the Brazilian Daniel do Nascimento, Danielzinho, managed to secure, temporarily, its qualification for the Paris 2024 Games marathon. The Olympic ratio determined by World Athletics is 2:08:10.

In addition to being provisionally one of the Brazilian places in the Olympics, Danielzinho, the only marathon runner not born in Africa who is the fastest in history in the marathon, with 2:04:51, obtained in South Korea, in 2022, is guaranteed in the World Championship, which takes place in Budapest in August this year.

Two other Brazilians competed in the German race. Jonathan de Oliveirawith 2:10:42, his personal best, was in 14th place, while Samuel do Nascimento, with 2:15:01, he finished 21st. The victory in the Hamburg Marathon went to the Kenyan bernard koech, with 02:04:09, a new course record. Second place was also Kenyan Joshua Beletwith 02:04:33, followed by compatriot Martin Kosgeiwith 02:06:18.

In the female, the victory was of the Kenyan Dorcas Tuitoek, with 2:20:09. the ethiopian Tiruye Mesfin ended with 2:20:18, with the Ugandan Stella Chesang in third, with 02:20:23.

OLYMPIC INDEX. For the 2024 Olympics, there are two ways of ranking for athletics events: 50% of athletes will have to be below the required index and the remaining 50% will be determined by the world ranking. The time period began on November 1, 2022 and runs through April 30, 2024.

At the Tokyo Olympics, Brazil had representatives only in the men’s category.
