Flamengo draws with América MG inside Maracanã
Flamengo faced América-MG this afternoon, and Jorge Sampaoli, the coach, faced some challenges to assemble the team. With the absence of midfielder Erick Pulgar, he had to form the 25th different team since his debut.
Meanwhile, América-MG had some important casualties to face Flamengo. Mikael and Aloísio were recovering, and Danilo Avelar, Ricardo Silva, Dadá Belmonte and Adyson, injured, were not available.
The game
In the first half of the match between Flamengo and América, the team from Rio started with a lot of pressure, trying to open the scoring right at the beginning. However, as the game progressed, Flamengo lost some of the intensity in its attacks and started to try to infiltrate América’s defense through exchanges of passes.
América’s defensive system proved to be well organized, and goalkeeper Pasinato had a great first half, making important saves that contributed to keeping the score tied up to that point. In addition, the team from Minas Gerais took advantage of the counterattacks, mainly exploring the left side with Pedrinho’s attacks.
At the end of the first half, the Flamengo players ended up stalling to take a free kick, which made the referee get tired of waiting and ended the first stage of the match. The score remained unchanged, and the teams went into the break with the tie still in effect.
At 5 minutes of the second half, Flamengo returned from the break with the same energy that had started the game. Gabigol had a significant opportunity, trying to dribble past goalkeeper Pasinato, but ended up wasting a great chance to score.
In the 23rd minute of the second half, in a cross by Daniel Borges, the ball hit the crossbar. Goalkeeper Matheus Cunha stayed hidden and hoped that the ball would not enter the goal.
At 28 minutes of the second half, Varanda received the ball at high speed and managed to score a goal. However, the assistant referee signaled the occurrence of offside. The bid was reviewed by the VAR (Video Referee) to verify the decision made on the field. After the review, VAR confirmed the offside call, invalidating Varanda’s goal and keeping the scoreboard unchanged.
América-MG opened the scoring against Flamengo, with a goal by Felipe Azevedo after a good move by Varanda on the counterattack, followed by a cross by Juninho. The goal happened in the game, leaving the score at 1×0 for América-MG.
In the 46th minute of the second half, Varanda again started a counterattack and passed to Matheusinho, who came face to face with goalkeeper Matheus Cunha. However, the goalkeeper made an excellent save.
When everything seemed to be on the way to victory for América-MG, Flamengo drew 1-1 in stoppage time in the second half. In a free kick by Arrascaeta, Victor Hugo anticipated the marking and headed firmly to equalize the score in the 49th minute of the second half.
