In a shooting in a gay club in the American city of Colorado Springs, at least five people were killed and 25 wounded. That makes the police of Colorado Springs Sunday (local time) known. The perpetrator was also injured and arrested.
The shooting took place just before midnight on Saturday at Club Q. The nightclub is located in the northeast of the city and describes itself as an “LGBTI nightclub with themed nights such as karaoke, drag shows and DJs”.
The perpetrator is a 22-year-old man from Colorado. According toCNN, the police do not want to say anything about the motive behind the shooting.
The police do say that the man immediately after entering started shooting. At least two “heroic people” in the club quickly overpowered the shooter, so he stopped shooting.
The club says in a message on Facebook that it is “devastated by the senseless attack on our community”. “Our prayers and thoughts go out to all the victims and their families and friends.”
“We can’t and we can’t tolerate hate,” President Joe Biden responded to the drama. Although the motive for the attack has not yet been determined, he denounced the “terrible” violence against the LGBTI community in recent times, particularly against transgender women of color.
In the U.S., according to gunviolencearchive.org count, nearly 18,000 people have been killed with firearms this year.
