Palmirinha dies of kidney disease: know the main symptoms and prevention
Palmira Nery da Silva Onofre, better known as Palmirinha, hospitalized since April 11 in a hospital in São Paulo, died after an aggravation of chronic kidney problems, this morning, Sunday (7).
Palmirinha, was a nickname given by presenter Ana Maria Braga, the name by which she became known nationally. She started on television talking about her case with domestic violence on TV Bandeirantes on Silvia Popoviv’s show. In the episode, Palmirinha took pies to the presenter who announced it on the air. Thus was born the icon of Brazilian culinary recipes.

The presenter and cook died of kidney problems at the age of 91. Below I list some information on symptoms and prevention for this type of disease.
Kidneys are essential organs in the human body, with the function of filtering toxins and balancing the body, their main functions are:
- Eliminate harmful substances from the blood;
- Regulate blood pressure;
- Produce hormones;
- Act in the formation and maintenance of bones;
- Stimulate the production of red blood cells.
Most kidney diseases are silent, in 80% of cases the kidneys lose their functions without many symptoms. But you can be aware of some signals that your kidneys can give your body:
- Urinating a lot at night;
- High pressure;
- Weakness and anemia;
- Swelling in the feet and face.
If not treated, these signs are essential in the evolution of a Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), as well as several other kidney diseases that can lead to the loss of organ function.
The main risk factors are high blood pressure, diabetes and family diseases, but also obesity, smoking, use of nephrotoxic medications (medicines that are directed to the kidney before being absorbed by the body).
Best practices to keep your kidneys healthy:
- Practicing regular physical exercises;
- Avoid excess salt, red meat and fats;
- Control of body weight and blood pressure;
- Cholesterol and glucose control;
- Do not smoke, do not abuse alcohol;
- Avoid the use of non-hormonal anti-inflammatory drugs;
- Be careful with dehydration frames;
- Carry out examinations at least once a year;
- Do not take medication without a doctor’s prescription.
