Police seize 60kg of drugs in Sedex truck

The Civil Police seized, this Sunday (9), 60 kg of drugs in a Sedex truck approached in Gravataí, metropolitan region of Porto Alegre

The approach took place after the police received information that a consignment of crack would be delivered near a toll station in Gravataí. The Police said they were surprised to realize that the vehicle was from Sedex because, despite investigating carriers involved in trafficking in the region for three months, they were still unaware of the participation of Correios vehicles

“We were surprised. We had information from carriers, but not from Correios. They were from other private companies. So, that caught our attention”said Chief Gabriel Borges, from the 3rd Drug Investigations Police Station (DIN).

In the cabin of the truck, 32 kg of cocaine produced in Peru were found, which, according to the delegate, could yield 5 times after being subjected to chemical processes. In addition, there were 28 kg of Crack, which could yield up to 150,000 stones.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested red-handed for drug trafficking, is a resident of Curitiba and has no criminal record. He told the police that he received R$4,000 reais to transport the cargo.

According to investigations by the 3rd Narcotraffic Investigations Police Station (DIN), the companies involved would not have known that their vehicles were used for drug trafficking, as the drivers would be enticed by criminal groups and worked normally, transporting the load of drugs without change the route of official carrier deliveries

“Often, they have someone they know in common. Sometimes, another driver indicates it. Soon, the driver may be experiencing some kind of financial difficulty, which makes life easier for the criminal to entice”says delegate Gabriel Borges.

The investigations continue and the objective of the 3rd DIN is to identify the members of the group involved with drug trafficking in carriers, including those who recruit drivers.

In a note, Correios said it was collaborating with the investigations and taking the necessary measures within the company. See full note below:

“Regarding the Via Expressa operation, carried out by the Civil Police / RS this weekend, Correios informs that the company’s corporate security area is following the case and collaborating with the competent authorities.

The state-owned company evaluates the appropriate contractual measures in this situation.

The orders that were transported by the seized truck have already followed the normal flow of deliveries.

Correios emphasizes that it maintains a close partnership with public security agencies to prevent crimes in postal services.”
