Rita Lee considered euthanasia after finding out about cancer, reveals new biography

Rita Leewho passed away at the age of 75 in early May, considered undergoing euthanasia after being diagnosed with lung cancer in 2021. The rock star herself exposed the outburst in her new book, “Rita Lee: Another Biography”, released last Monday (22).

In excerpts from the work, the singer reveals that, initially, she did not want to face radio and chemotherapy treatments due to the memories she had of the suffering of her mother, Romilda Jones, who was also a victim of cancer.

“Told him (doctor) that my life had been wonderful and that, for me, I took the ‘midnight tea’ to go from this one to the better. That they would let me make a dignified, painless, quick and conscious passage. I wanted to be attentive so that I could start my path again in another dimension. I am fully in favor of euthanasia. Dying with dignity is necessary”, wrote Rita.

According to the artist, those responsible for the change in decision were her husband, the multi-instrumentalist Roberto de Carvalho, and the couple’s three children. “I counted (to the head of the oncology department at the hospital) of the trauma that stayed with me for having seen my mother’s suffering having these two procedures done when she had cancer. (…) The love of the Carvalho/Lee ​​boys made me choose to accept the treatment, because, if it were up to me, goodbye cruel world in peace“, said.

In her second autobiography, which came into the world seven years after the first, Rita still shares moments of difficulty she experienced in the fight against the disease, such as panic attacks and moments of fragility in front of the mirror. “The other day, I went to take a shower and I saw myself naked in the mirror and I saw a plucked chicken (…) An old chicken that not even good broth would make”, he confessed.

In addition to reflections and revelations, the reports of the musical star are also marked by the good-natured wit that she kept in life, mainly in passages such as “Why make such a funeral face when we should treat her with humor?”, or “In fact, I can’t even complain about the cancer. Deep in my being, I appreciate the lessons of the dimensions of Light and try to understand the whys around me.”, stated Rita.
