São Paulo has the largest number of foreigners in its roster

In the 20 clubs in Serie A of the 2023 Brazilian championship, one thing caught our attention, yes, the number of foreign players playing in our football. There are currently 94 players of other nationalities playing in our football, and São Paulo Futebol Clube has the largest number of foreigners in its squad, since the club has nine players (in addition to the two Brazilians naturalized Portuguese). Among the first division clubs, Cruzeiro is the only one to maintain a roster of 100% Brazilian players.

This diversity in Brazilian football has 15 different flags in the rosters of the 20 teams. The Argentines dominate this ranking with 31 active players. In second place, we have the Uruguayans, who have 21 athletes. In the South American continent, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia and Paraguay have players who play in our football.

Among the main clubs in the country, Corinthians, Internacional and São Paulo are the clubs that dominate this scenario with the largest number of foreigners in their squad, in all there are six different nationalities.

The São Paulo tricolor is a reference when it comes to foreign athletes. That’s because in its history, the club has a long history of players from other countries who played and on many occasions became idols in the team’s history.

São Paulo in 2023 has the following foreigners:

– Alan Franco, Galoppo and Calleri (Argentina)

– Michel Araújo and Gabriel Neves (Uruguayans)

– Orejuela (Colombia)

– Arboleda and Jhegson Méndez (Ecuador)

– Nahuel Ferraresi (Venezuela)

– Marcos Paulo and João Moreira (Brazilians naturalized Portuguese)

Calleri, by the way, is one of the idols of São Paulo’s recent history and is currently in his second spell at the club.
