Atlético-MG decides to keep Eduardo Coudet in charge

After strong signs of dismissal, Eduardo Coudet is maintained in the position of coach of Atlético-MG. In a meeting between the coach and the collegiate body, held this Tuesday morning (11) at Galo’s administrative headquarters, the club’s representatives decided to continue with Coudet.

In addition, of course, to the Argentine, Sérgio Coelho, president of Atlético, Rodrigo Caetano, director of football, and the president of the Deliberative Council of the club, Ricardo Guimarães, who is also one of the investors of the “4Rs”, were present at the meeting.

The maintenance of “Chacho” – as he is called – in the position took place after the coach’s decision to continue, combined with the refusal to sign the so-called “contractual amendment” proposed by the board of Galo, which intended to annul the fine that left the departure without financial charges. The amount is R$26 million, which made this alternative unfeasible at the moment.

Coudet’s contract, which expires in December 2024, was on the verge of breaking up after the Argentine coach publicly expressed some dissatisfaction, including the departure of some players since the year began and the non-compliance with the investment promised by the “patrons” of Atlético.

“Chacho”‘s statements were given at a press conference after Galo’s debut in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores, in a 1-0 defeat by Libertad, in Mineirão. , saying that they did not act as previously agreed between the parties.

In addition to the criticism of the board and the squad – he sold Sasha and Ademir in recent weeks –, Coudet also lamented the behavior of the fans in the Libertadores setback, condemning the boos directed at some players during the match and the attitude of an athletican who threw a glass of beer in it.

The next day, Coudet apologized for what he said and, after winning the Campeonato Mineiro with a new victory over América-MG by 2-0, the coach had a survival in charge. The results and the good relationship with the group of players were two of the vital factors for the permanence, but the high amount of the termination fine was what weighed the most.
