Qualified respectively for the knockout stages of the Europa League and the Europa League Conference, Lyon and Monaco as well as Marseille and Rennes will know their next opponent this Friday, from 12 p.m.
We have known since Thursday evening the full set of the knockout stages of the Europa League and the Europa League Conference. Four French clubs are still in the running and are involved in the draw which will take place this Friday at midday.
Barça for Lyon or Monaco? From 12 p.m., UEFA will carry out the draw for the next round of the Europa League. After finishing first in their group, Olympique Lyonnais and AS Monaco are seeded.
A status that will not necessarily protect the two Ligue 1 teams in a competition that now looks like a small Champions League in view of the teams still in contention.
Among the eight potential opponents of OL and ASM is FC Barcelona, who were impressive against Naples (4-2) on Thursday evening. Nor is it easy to face Sevilla FC and Betis, respectively 2nd and 3rd in La Liga, nor RB Leipzig, Atalanta Bergamo or even FC Porto.
European Cups: potential opponents of OM, Lyon, Monaco and Rennes
The most affordable teams seem to be Braga or Glasgow Rangers. Beware, however, of the Scots who have just left Borussia Dortmund.
Marseille and Rennes will avoid each other Eliminated from the Europa League during the group stage, Olympique de Marseille will continue its European campaign in the Europa League Conference. The Marseillais won their ticket for the round of 16 by dismissing Qarabag (3-1, 3-0) in the play-offs.
In the next round, OM will challenge a team that finished first in their pool in C4. This is the case with Stade Rennais, but the two clubs from the same country cannot face each other at this stage of the tournament.
During the draw which will start at 1 p.m., Marseille will therefore have seven possible opponents: AS Roma, AZ Alkmaar, Basel, Feyenoord, La Gantoise, LASK and FC Copenhagen.
Opponents who can offer a good resistance to the men of Jorge Sampaoli. Seeded, Rennes can fall on a challenge taken up with PSV Eindhoven and Leicester.
Partizan Belgrade, Slavia Prague and PAOK Thessaloniki seem within reach of Bruno Genesio’s side, while surprise Norwegians Bodo/Glimt, who ousted Celtic, would offer very undecided opposition.
What draw do you hope for the French clubs? Feel free to react and discuss in the ” Add a comment ” area.
