After a note from the women’s team, Arthur Elias explains: “It was misunderstood”

Less than 24 hours before the publication of a note from the women’s team of Corinthians and his coach mainly asking for “Respect for the Mines”, the team commander, Arthur Elias spoke on the subject. In an interview with “Globo Esporte”, he explained that it was not a statement of protest against the hiring of Cuca by the men’s team.

“I think it’s important to explain, better explain to our fans, to society, something that was very misunderstood. (…) The group of athletes wanted to make a position on the subject, they speak in general, they are proud of what it is to wear this Corinthians shirt, it was not some kind of manifesto, protest, the girls did not personalize it on anyone , it is not in the figure of Cuca, in the figure of our president, but there is an interpretation and it was very badly interpreted both by the press and by our fans, I think that this has to be corrected’ said Arthur.

Still in the interview, the coach said it was cruel to place all responsibility on the figure of Cuca and the president Duílio Monteiro Alves, who talked to the entire female team about the subject. In his statement, Arthur Elias recalled that the men’s coach says he is innocent and it would be unfair to judge him again, since the same happened in the country of the case.

“I think the injustice comes because the club hired Cuca, who is a super victorious coach, experienced, one of the best we have in the country. Cuca says he is innocent, the club investigated this, he was careful, Duílio talked with the players, he talked to me too, there was a very important conversation in this regard. It was clear that the club has no doubt that he is innocent, Cuca says he is innocent, something that happened a long time ago”, he added.

playing for Guild, the new commander of Corinthians and three other athletes from the club from Rio Grande do Sul were in their hotel room when the girl arrived with her friends asking for a shirt. After the friends left, the players stayed with her in the room and a rape report ended up occurring shortly afterwards. Three of them, including Cuca, were sentenced to 15 months in prison, while the other for just three months, in a trial that took place two years later.
