AZ Alkmar fans attack West Ham family members and players

A confusion settled at the end of the match between the Dutch team AZ Alkmar and the English club West Ham, who were disputing a place for the final of the Conference League. The turmoil happened after the English team defeated AZ, at the end of the game fans of the Dutch club knocked down large security guards and dozens of people invaded the sector intended for West Ham family and friends.

Amidst the celebration on the lawn, the players of the English club realized the chaos and left to defend their family members who were in the midst of the confrontation. Despite not having anyone present at the scene of the confusion, the Brazilian Lucas Paquetá entered the battle to help his teammates. Midfielder Flynn Downes, winger Ben Johnson, defender Aaron Cresswell, and forwards Antonio and Benrahma were the athletes who also went to defend their fans and loved ones.

The players showed no injuries after the match and the security forces managed to contain the Dutch.

“I cannot explain what happened and why it happened. Players were involved because it was the family section. This was probably the reason for the backlash. I don’t want this to spoil the night in any way, because the West Ham fans weren’t looking for trouble. I hope they look into this.” , reported West Ham manager David Moyes.

UEFA and both clubs have yet to comment on the episode. It is recommended that the organization of the Conference League apply punishments to AZ Alkmar.

West Ham are in a European competition final after 47 years, their last appearance was in 1976, for the old European Cup Cup tournament, which no longer exists. The English club will play in the grand final of the Conference League on June 7 against Fiorentina of Italy, in Prague, in the Czech Republic.
