What are hydrolates?

Hydrolates are substances that can be made from plants and are used by the cosmetics, perfumery and aromatherapy industries, known as floral water or hydrosols, they are also used in homeopathy due to their therapeutic properties. Hydrolats are soft and delicate, which makes them ideal for hydrating the skin, with small amounts of essential oils that are soluble in water, helping to keep the skin hydrated without clogging pores and balancing and restoring the skin's natural pH, an important factor in maintaining the skin's protective barrier and preventing problems such as acne and irritation. Depending on the plant of origin, hydrolates may have specific therapeutic properties. For example, lavender has calming factors and can help soothe irritated or inflamed skin. Rose hydrolates may have astringent properties and help tone the skin.
