Studies show that more than 30% of heart attacks increase more when the temperature is low. This is more recurrent in older people, aged between 75 and 84 years.

To keep warm, the body makes a greater effort, stimulating the release of substances to reach a temperature of up to 36°C. This causes the heart to speed up more than normal to pump blood, facilitating the detachment of fatty plaques and blocking the flow of blood to the heart.

Reducing the impact of the cold is a good option. For this, it is necessary to keep the body always active, in addition to dressing better, using gloves and socks, for example. “Hot compresses and massages can also help with pain relief”, advises the specialist. A good option would also be a balanced diet.

Drinking plenty of water can be a good ally in preventing heart attacks. So stay hydrated.
