1. Not all LDR relationships are successful
Sweet and Sour is about two lovers, Chae so Bin (Jung Da Eun) and Jang Hyeok (Jang Ki Yong). Initially, the relationship was still harmonious, until a career opportunity received by Jang Hyeok made their relationship beset by challenges due to having to undergo LDR.
From their story, you come to know that not all LDR relationships work. There’s a lot at stake so that the relationship doesn’t break down halfway through. Sometimes, close relationships can be ended because of misunderstandings, let alone long-distance relationships that require a high level of trust in a partner.
2. Take care of each other’s hearts (Messages of Love in Sweet and Sour Romantic Movies)
Despite the LDR challenges, Jang Hyeok (Jang Ki Yong) tries to become a lover who maintains a relationship by traveling long distances between the office and the home of his girlfriend, Da Eun (Chae so Bin).
However, the situation changes when Jang Hyeok gets an impromptu project with his new co-worker, Han Bo Yeong (Krystal Jung) which makes him have to overtime and cannot go home every day to Da Eun’s house. Their togetherness in the office makes Jang Hyeok start to be tempted to cheat on feelings.
Their story certainly feels relatable because it is experienced by many couples. The presence of a third person makes a relationship that was once sweet begin to feel bland to live. Therefore, taking care of each other’s hearts needs to be done by each partner. Remember again, your original intentions and your ultimate goals when in a relationship. It’s not easy, but it at least makes you uneasy to have an affair.
3. Communicate and open up to each other
Despite trying to be faithful, Jang Hyeok’s heart begins to doubt. Communication between her and Da Eun, the lover who was initially intense becomes reduced. In addition, there is one scene where the communication that was previously open to each other, Hyeok begins to lie to Da Eun about her situation at that time.
Not only Jang Hyeok, Da Eun does the same. There’s a lot da eun can’t say. Jang Hyeok’s busy life makes Da Eun feel like her relationship is fading. On the other hand, Da Eun desperately needs a lover who cares about her when needed. Until finally, Da Eun has an affair and covers up her relationship status.
From the story of Sweet and Sour, there is a message of love that in every relationship, communicating and open to each partner becomes the main pillar in maintaining the relationship. Find the right time and take action to talk about everything or the relationship at stake.
4. Lower the ego for a good relationship (Messages of Love in Sweet and Sour Romantic Movies)
In Sweet and Sour,Da Eun (Chae so Bin) is portrayed as a woman who works as a nurse in a hospital. Long working hours and pressure at work make her stressed plus pregnant hormones that make Da Eun more sensitive and emotional.
Unfortunately, Hyeok who begins to get distracted with Bo Yeong (Krystal Jung) becomes insensitive to her lover. There is a selfish nature in Da Eun that complicates the situation. There is a scene where Da Eun tells Hyeok to dump the trash just as Hyeok has just arrived at Da Eun’s house after going through a traffic jam to reach her lover’s house.
Any couple will be angry when they come home from work, but not warmly welcomed by their lover. Moreover, hyeok does not know that Da Eun is pregnant. There are times when trying to lower the ego for a moment or control emotions for the sake of a good relationship.
5. The importance of sexual education in relationships
In addition to communication problems, Da Eun’s four-week pregnancy is also another problem in this Sweet and Sour romantic film. When Da Eun tells Jang Hyeok about her pregnant self, it appears that Hyeok is not ready to accept it.
The two have a violent fight in the car and Hyeok’s remarks offend Da Eun. Da Eun feels that Hyeok doesn’t want the child, so Da Eun is alone in facing it all.

Hyeok’s unpreparedness for her lover’s extramarital pregnancy is proof that the importance of sexual education in a relationship is evident. There are always consequences to bear when a relationship crosses a safe line.
6. Appreciate every couple’s efforts
Having a bit of a selfish nature, Da Eun wants Jang Hyeok to constantly understand. In fact, Jang Hyeok also has a busy life that makes him tired enough to be able to balance between career and love.
When Jang Hyeok tries to balance everything, Da Eun doesn’t see it and is less able to appreciate every effort given by Hyeok. However, when Hyeok makes a mistake and his intensity decreases in paying attention to Da Eun. It makes others an impingement.
In fact, a relationship does not apply one way, but two ways. Try to appreciate each couple’s efforts, no matter how small. Not only want to understand, but also understand each other’s condition. Not only want to be heard, but also be a good listener.
7. Relationships are not always happy
Jang Hyeok(Jang Ki Yong) and Da Eun (Chae so Bin)’s twisted and dynamic relationship is in keeping with the wishes of the director, Lee Gae Byok, who wants to show the sweetness of a relationship.
During a press conference, Lee Gae Byok revealed that the film was deliberately made as realistic as possible because relationships are not always happy and flowery. However, even bitter acid is definitely in it. Therefore, he wants to make the love story in this movie feel authentic and of course, there is an element of plot twist in it.
