Ministry of Agriculture seizes beans unfit for consumption
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) identified some batches of beans unfit for consumption, in an operation carried out between the 10th and 13th of April in Rio de Janeiro.
On the occasion, MAPA servers seized 150 tons of grains that, according to information, were moldy and burnt (fermented), causing concern for posing a risk to consumer health. The information was confirmed after laboratory analysis, that the product does not meet the necessary quality and safety standards, contaminated above 15% of the permitted limit. “These grains can contain mycotoxins that are harmful to the body, causing food poisoning and allergic reactions”, explained Hugo Caruso who is director of the Department of Inspection of Products of Vegetal Origin,.
The collection took place this Friday (19) across the country, there are four batches of beans from the brands: “Da Mama” and “Sanes”. According to MAPA, inappropriate beans were also found in the Federal District. And they must be collected from the points of sale, the consumer who has already purchased the product must pay attention to the following batches:

– Batch 51 of colored beans and Batch 06 of black bean – from Mom’s brand.
– Lots: 030423 and 080323from black beans – Sanes brand.
In a note, MAPA warned about the importance of consumers paying attention and carefully checking the packaging of products in the markets, before buying them. Complaints can be registered in the customer service channels of consumer protection agencies and by telephone (61) 3218-2089. “If they have purchased these products, consumption must be stopped immediately and the consumer must contact the trade where it was purchased for the proper return or disposal procedure”, completed.
“Sanes” informed that it will adopt all measures regarding the collection of lots. And the brand “Da mama” said that there was an excess of moisture in the products, and that the problem was detected in January and the product was changed quickly.
