Redfall single player – Last month, it was reported that players will always need to be connected to the internet to be able to play Redfall, even if they decide to face the experience alone in single player mode. However, this could change in the future.

Game director Harvey Smith told eurogamer that the team at developer Arkane is working to create a solution that will allow you to remove this. “There are two ways developers can react to this, right? They could say, ‘Oh my God, you’re always online. If you log into your Steam and you’re not online, you freak out. If you log into your Xbox and can’t get the latest patch or see what your friends are up to, you freak out. You want to be always online!’” Smith explained of players’ request to be able to play offline.

“But that response, I think, lacks empathy. There are people who live in places where there are blackouts or broadband is shit, or they are competing with their family members (for the connection), because their mother is watching a movie on streaming or their brother is using the internet on another device. And so I think that’s a legitimate criticism.”
“We approach this with great empathy. We hear. And we’ve already begun work to address this in the future,” added Smith. “We have to do some things like encrypt your game saves and do a bunch of UI work to support that. And so we’re looking into it – I shouldn’t promise anything – but we’re actively investigating and working to fix this in the future.” On why Redfall forces players to always be online, Smith explained that it is to help Arkane analyze player behavior and modify the game accordingly. “It allows us to do some accessibility things,” he said. “This allows us telemetry. If everyone is falling down stairs and dying, dammit, it shows. And then we can go and adjust the ladder (programming) code. There are reasons why we set out to do this that are not insidious.” Redfall arrives May 2 for Xbox Series and PC.
