Underwater noise detection renews hopes for Titan sub’s location
The submersible Titan disappeared last Sunday after descending to visit the wreckage of the Titanic, at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. On the morning of this Wednesday (21), the US Coast Guard announced that a Canadian submarine captured underwater noises, with intervals of 30 minutes, which bring hope of finding the object and the five people inside it.
According to a US government document that the press had access to on Tuesday (20), the same sounds were repeated about four hours after the first record by the probe of a Canadian aircraft participating in the searches.
After the sounds were recorded, the US Coast Guard indicated that all searches were directed to the area where the sounds were recorded.
OceanGate stated: “We were unable to establish communication with one of our submersible exploration vehicles”, but “our entire focus (is) on the submersible’s crew and their families”.
“We are deeply grateful for all the help we have received from various government agencies and deepwater companies in our efforts to re-establish contact with the submersible,” added.

The submersible Titan, owned by Ocean Gate, was on its fifth expedition to descend to the depths of the ocean and “visit” the Titanic. The submarine is crewed by five people, and the cost of the trip is around R$ 1.2 million. Titan should have returned to the surface on Sunday. The descent lasts two hours and the visit lasts about four to five hours. However, this did not happen.
The US Coast Guard announced, in a press conference this Wednesday (21), that the submersible has approximately 20 hours of oxygen and should last until 6 am on Thursday (22).
The US and Canadian Navy, government agencies and companies specializing in deep water are helping with operations to find the sub. Searches are being carried out incessantly, and now time is the worst enemy.
