Brazilians score as Liverpool draw with Arsenal and lead slips

Arsenal’s taboo at Anfield continues. Even leaving in front of the scoreboard, Mikel Arteta’s team suffered a 2-2 tie this Sunday against Liverpool in the final minutes. The match was marked by confusion at halftime and goals from Brazilian strikers.

At the beginning of the match, Arsenal started controlling the game and the goal did not take long to come out. At eight minutes, Gabriel Martinelli was left with the ball and touched the goalkeeper Alisson, opening the scoring of the match. This was the 14th goal of the Brazilian striker in the Premier League, isolating himself in the artillery of the London club in the championship.

Contrary to all expectations, Arsenal would reach the second goal 20 minutes later. Martinelli is launched on the left. The Brazilian striker makes a suitable cross for Gabriel Jesus, who tested hard for the nets, extending the advantage for the Gunners. It was the 3rd goal of the ex-Palmeiras striker after the injury that sidelined him for a long time.

Pressured by the adverse score, Liverpool launched into the attack and pressed for the rest of the match. In the final minutes of the first stage, Salah sent it to the nets after a hit in the area.

After the referee’s whistle ended the first half, Liverpool players went to press the referee. Fourth official Constatine Hatzidakis elbowed left-back Robertson. The player still received a yellow card.

In the second half, Liverpool’s pressure increased. In the 52nd minute, Diogo Jota was brought down in the area and the referee awarded the penalty. Salah went for the kick and wasted, sending the ball out.

Arsenal tried to escape on the counterattacks. While Liverpool stopped in the hands of goalkeeper Ramsdale. Until the 87th minute, Arsenal’s goalkeeper could do nothing to prevent the equalizer. Alexander-Arnold made a beautiful move down the right and found Roberto Firmino at the back post. The Brazilian striker tested hard for the nets giving equal numbers to the match.

With the draw, Liverpool continues with the invincibility at Anfield against Arsenal in a Premier League match. The Gunners haven’t beaten the Reds away from home since September 2012.

Arsenal remain at the top of the Premier League with 73 points, six points more than second-placed Manchester City. The Gunners have now played 30 competition games. While the Citizens played one less.

Liverpool, on the other hand, is in eighth place in the table, with 44 points, 12 points less than Manchester United, the last team in the G4.

Arsenal are back on the field next Sunday, against West Ham, away from home, at 10 am.

Liverpool will also play away from home in the next round, against Leeds, next Monday, at 4 pm.
