Dennis Carvalho on Globo’s resignation: “It is inevitable to keep a certain sorrow”

Dennis Carvalho gave an interview to Veja this past Friday (19) and spoke in detail about his period of hospitalization, about his resignation from Globo and revealed that he has regrets with the broadcaster. In the chat, Carvalho spoke about the turmoil he has faced in his personal and professional life in recent months. The director was hospitalized in December last year, shortly after receiving the diagnosis of extensive pneumonia, and later, with septicemia. “I was still assimilating my departure from TV Globo, after 47 years on the road”.

The dismissal took place in September 2022. According to Dennis, the way he was approached by Ricardo Waddington, director of Globo Studios at the time, was disrespectful. Still, he wasn’t surprised by the announcement. He says that all the time they see news of talented people being let go and said he knew the same could happen to him. “Waddington, who was my assistant and learned a lot from me, called me into the room and said, ‘We’re not renewing your contract, honey. We prefer to call you for the right work, okay? And what was left for me to answer? ‘Okay’, I said and left”, remembered.

The artist considered the contract-per-work policy as “hasty and unfair”. He claims that Globo is in a negative balance when it loses so many talents. However, the director of Vale Tudo does not think it is right to keep members who have not worked for many years on the staff. “They should find a compromise,” he said.

Dennis directed more than 40 programs and 28 soap operas, among the famous ones are: Dancin’ Days (1978), Vale Tudo (1988) and O Dono do Mundo (1991)). “It hits a void, of course. I miss the people, the conviviality in the studios. It is inevitable to hold a certain sorrow. I think he deserved a little more respect.”

Despite the hospitalization, Dennis does not think about retiring, he is currently negotiating with a streaming channel for the Middle Class series and said that if he receives an invitation to a project on Globo, he will return to the broadcaster. “I want to die working“, he said.
