Find out why children suffer more from respiratory allergies in winter!

It only takes temperatures to drop in winter for children to start showing allergic symptoms such as coughing and sneezing. There are those who think that it could be a simple cold and even the beginning of a flu, but they are signs of respiratory crises of rhinitis and asthma. But why does this respiratory condition usually get worse during the coldest season of the year?

According to the pediatrician and neonatologist, Dr. Danielle Negri, due to the cold, children tend to spend more time indoors. When there is not adequate air circulation, infections are very likely to occur, since the sudden drop in temperature affects the immune system of children, increasing the risk of allergic crises.

“In winter, contact with blankets is greater and we must be aware of the presence of mites, which can trigger allergic crises in the season. The dry winter in the southeast region has high levels of pollution and particles contribute to inflammation of the respiratory system” says Danielle Negri.

The doctor advises some measures that can be adopted in daily life by parents to reduce discomfort and prevent crises, such as: using neutral products for hygiene, without strong odors; avoid carpets and keep the floor clean – the ideal is to use a damp cloth to avoid the formation of dust and replace curtains with blinds.

“The family should also always keep the blankets so that they do not accumulate dust on the bed, do not use fabric softeners on the clothes, in addition to keeping a few plush toys in the bedroom. Choose the ones that are easier to wash and dry, like those made from synthetic materials, which should be washed weekly,” says the pediatrician.
