NBA legend Carmelo Anthony announces retirement from the court

Ninth highest scorer in the NBA, Carmelo Anthony announced his departure from basketball in a publication on social networks; player played for 19 seasons

Carmelo Anthonyicon of NBA, announced his retirement this Monday, 22, after 19 seasons played. The player, who was elected “All-Star” on ten occasions (consecutively between 2010 and 2017) and who had the Los Angeles Lakers as its last team in the league, communicated the decision through a post on social networks.

“Basketball was my refuge. My purpose was strong, my communities, the cities I proudly represented and the fans who supported me all the way. I am forever grateful for all these people and places because they made me who I am.”says ‘Melo’ in part of the publication.

In addition to the Lakers, Carmelo Anthony collects passages through Nuggets, Knicks, Rockets, Blazers and by OKC. Throughout his career, the athlete scored 28,289 points, which made him the 9th highest scorer in NBA history. For the US basketball team, the veteran ranks 2nd among the highest scorers (336), behind only Kevin Durant (354).

Melo won several titles on the national sports team. The wing won the bronze medal in the Olympic Games of Athens (2004) and in the Basketball World Cup (FIBA) 2006 held in Japan. Alongside the “Dream Team”, he won gold at the Olympics in Beijing (2008), London (2012) and Rio (2016).

In his college basketball career, Anthony was a NCAA and was among the top four highlights of the edition (2003). He was also named to the second-team All-American Team award, as well as having his number #15 retired by the Syracuse Universitywhich he defended at the beginning of his career in the sport.
